Maned Three-toed Sloth
The maned three-toed sloth is on the endangered species list! This furry friend has a tiny head with small ears and eyes. These cute guys can be found in trees, at the Atlantic Coast of Eastern Brazil. Their outer coat of fur is a home for the bugs that are in a symbiotic relationship with the sloth. The sloth is an folivore, as it eats the leaves, buds and twigs of trees. They remain in the tree unless it is absolutely necessary to leave, because they are rather unstable on the ground. However, the maned three-toed sloth is an exceptionally great swimmer! Since 2006, the maned three-toed sloth has been placed on the endangered species list, as their population is rapidly decreasing, due to deforestation, hunters, charcoal production, and accidental mortality on roads. The sloth's main defense is staying extremely still; they are quite good at it.

How to Save the maned three-toed sloth
¡Los perezosos necesitan ayudar!
The WWF is actively trying to protect the habitats of the remaining sloths. Alternatives of the slash-and-burn technique that ruins the homes of these animals are being researched. Keeping the sloths in captivity is not as effective as just protecting their natural habitats.
